The July 2011 opening of Healesville Contemporary Art Space (HCAS) by the team at Mt Rael continues to build on the Yarra Valley’s reputation as one of the fastest growing art regions in Australia. Situated in the hustle and bustle of Healesville Main Street in an underground basement setting – this raw space is the perfect foil for original art, good conversation and fresh healthy food.
This new ‘must-visit’ on any trip to the Yarra Valley, started its life as a warehouse space so is all cement floors, ceilings and pillars which have been retained with the central pillars being covered with floor to ceiling mirrors adding to the drama. The perfectly lit space has been filled it with Yarra Valley, interstate and international and metal paint brushes (what else) on the front doors open a virtual Pandora’s Box of art on canvas, quirky sculpture pieces and stunning furniture.
Art work on display and available for purchase surrounds eclectic furniture where you can sit and enjoy the food of Mt Rael Chef John Knoll as well as local Yarra Valley wines, beers and ciders.
Palate is open for lunch & excellent coffee 10am to 4pm – Thursday to Sunday.
You will find yummy and creative salads – housemade biscuits, bread and focaccia – decadent muffins – savoury and sweet tarts. All food and coffee can be enjoyed either in our sunny courtyard or inside the stimulating and inspired art space.
